Halal Eateries
Halal Eateries on Campus
ANU have a variety of restaurants located on campus. The following is a list of all the restaurants which have halal certification.
This list of restaurants may be incomplete and is subject to change. As always, double-check with each restaurant to ensure that they have the proper halal certification. Even though all these restaurants have halal certification, it is important to note that some of them still offer pork on their menus.
Australia is quite Muslim-food friendly regarding meat production, however, it is important to look for halal certification on grocery items that contain gelatine, and meat products. We have listed here a range of halal groceries and the market that sells the things you require in our Magazine (download here).
When shopping for halal chicken, at your local grocery keep an eye open for Lilydale and Steggles chicken as they both have certified halal products. On their website, you can find a list of products certified by The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC). We can buy meat from mainstream supermarkets such as ALDI or COLES if it is halal certified. We can check the halal-certified status by entering its EST number on the halalfood website.
There is a misconception that candy and lollies containing Beef gelatine are halal, this may be true in other countries where halal meat is most easily accessible and the norm, however as we do not live in a Muslim country this is not the case.
